Navman iCN 510 32MB GPS NavigatorUser Review: - Great for the priceGot this at another merchant for under $350.00. Work's fantastic so far in the San francisco Bay area. Maps appear reasonably accurate and GPS positioning and instructions are precise so far. For the money, it can't be beat. Screen is bright, and touchscreen is easy to use. User Review: - iCN = inCarNavigationNavman iCN510 is altogether a more-than-acceptable GPS system - especially for what you can buy it at outpost.com. It's extremely accurate, gives clear voice directions, has a wonderfully clear 3.5" color monitor (although it's sometimes hard to see in direct sunlight), and has an incredible 3-D view that's a sight to behold! However, it does have some issues. It appears there are areas of the country where it may not have the most updated map, especially if the area is a new development. But for where I live, it hasn't been a problem. For the reviewer below who stated that this is only good for the car, please read the title of my review. It's designed for the car. As for not being able to 'waypoint' a location directly from the GPS, I'm not sure how he's defining 'waypoint', but if all you want to do is to 'save' the location of where you're at, you can do so using the 'Favorite' function. So let's say you're out on the town and parked your car at the intersection of Western and Wilshire and want to 'lock in' your location, you may do so directly from Navman. Then if you had to walk a few blocks and then lost your way after a night of merry-making, you can use your Navman to get back to your car! How cool is THAT?! You can do this because it's completely portable (fits in your shirt pocket) and battery operated (rechargeable, no less!) - unlike some other GPS which doesn't even operate without its umbilical cord attached to the car's cigarette lighter outlet! So I guess it's MORE than just an 'inCarNavigation', but also outCarNavigation! I also initially had minor problem with the truncating of the streets, as well as giving different zones for a major city. But you can minimize or for most part eliminate this problem by knowing the exact address to where you're going, including the zip code! Then, you minimize/eliminate the number of 'zones' and/or truncation you need to go through. I've found this to be a minor problem in a large city such as Los Angeles, but not in smaller towns where there's less likelihood of overlapping stree names and so forth. I've read that Navman will be updating their maps within a few months. Hopefully they'll also solve the truncating/zone problem with it. The bottom line is, for what you're likely to use it for, you can't beat it for the price! It may not be perfect, but if you're able to deal with some of its minor idiosyncracies, you've got a winner! I plan to keep mine! User Review: - Great product for the moneyI was able to get this product for $349 at Fry's. This included a free 256MB SD Card. The product works fairly well. It is well constructed and very portable. Nav software is very responsive, voice prompt sometimes off but instructions on screen were always correct. Installation was smooth and without incident. After applying recent software update most or all issues are resolved. You can pay more an get more, but for the price it is the best thing out there. User Review: - Disapointed!I am confused with the good reviews of this product. I have been a GPS owner for 3 years starting this the sporttrak pro which was a good unit except the case was worthless and kept cracking. I bought this one to replace it, mistake! First of all, and maybe my fault for the misunderstanding, but please understand that this is a Vehicle navigation system only, Its use outside of a car is limited and nearly non existent. If you want to use it for off road or Geocaching, do not buy this unit. You are limited to 25 POI's or as i would call waypoints, you can only add them from the computer. So lets say you want to mark the point you left your car,a standard GPS funtion, you cant just add a way point where you currently are. Next problem, lets say you want to set destination you type in the street, it returns lots of streets with the same name because it truncats the end. They all may be the correct street but you have to have the correct segment of the street in order to set your destination, but they all look the same, so you keep guessing until you get it right, this is rediculous! With my megellan, you type in the street it returns segaments that you choose from, but at least it gives you the street number ranges so you know which one to choose. And the last issue as mentioned by others is the outdated maps and the poor response from NAVMAN about updates. In summary its a vehicle navigation system only and not very good at that. But it is cheap. User Review: - Awesome for the price that is!Purchased it from (something like out post.com ) for $299. I'm happy with it especially for the price paid. Used built in unit in Mercedes 300E and it has larger screen and all but it was very expensive option. Beauty of this device based on pocked pc is that you can take it with you anywhere! Set up was simple but noticed that map is bit outdated as noted by other reviewers. GPS at times took a while to lock on but once it locked stayed the course. And placing it on windshied meant I don't have to take my eye off too. I'd give 4 only due to the outdated map. |
