Magellan RoadMate 760 Portable GPS NavigatorUser Review: - CUSTOMER SERVICEAFTER 11 MONTHS THE UNIT FROZE UP RETURNED IT AFTER MUCH STALLING BY TECH'S.IT WAS SENT BACK WITHOUT PART FOR DASH MOUNT.PROMISED REPLACMENT GOING ON 2 WEEKS.I SWITCHED FROM DELL TO MAC. FOR SAME REASON OUTSORCEING User Review: - A decent GPSThe Magellan 760 is a last-generation (no longer in production) device that surprisingly has several features superior to the current generation, as well as a few annoying glitches. This one works very much like all the self-contained units on the market today in terms of user input, calculating routes, different routing options. I compared this unit to the Garmin 340, the Tom-Tom GO 910, the Whistler 550, the Magellan 3000 and the newer Magellan 2000. I liked the Magellan units better over all than the others; easier to use, richer in features. During my typical work day I have to go many different places, sometimes in unfamiliar territory, making several stops along a route. Putting in a route having many stops is essential, and only the higher-priced units had this capability. A feature missing in the others, however, is the ability to optimise a route, arranging the stops in an efficient sequence. Another feature lacking in several of the others is an automatic dimmer. I found some of them way too bright at night, this one works quite well, and has a light sensor to automatically dim it in dark conditions. Annoying glitches: Perhaps because this unit uses a 20GB hard drive, it tends to crap out when it gets too hot, which happens when it hangs on the windshield in direct sunlight on a hot day. Powering it off and back on usually recovers it, but when that starts happening it's best to take it off the window and let it cool down for a bit. Newer units have self-contained batteries, which enhances their versatility. However the newer ones also have features I would consider superfluous, like MP-3 player and photo viewer. User Review: - In a word, UNRELIABLE!this is the second 760 I've bought in one year. To be honest, I was never impressed with the functionality. Without the external antenna, it took me sometimes up to 30 minutes to get a signal. But what really angers me is that both units suddenly just stopped working and would not even power up. Zero stars!!!! User Review: - DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCTI bought one, which worked for about 20 hours, and then broke. They sent me a new one after HOURS on the phone with customer service, which is SO TERRIBLE I CAN'T EVEN BEGIN TO DESCRIBE IT. And the new one they sent me (not "new" but clearly refurbished) was BROKEN. I am so fed up I am just going to take it as a loss and go to Garmin. It may be fine if it works, but it breaks all the time and the company is an absolute nightmare to work with. User Review: - Does It Really Do That?A local news team examines advertised products to determine whether or not they actually do what they are advertised to do. The commentary is then aired to disclose the reality of the proclamation. Well, news team...if you're listening...I can save you time and money, because the Magellan Roadmate 760 portable GPS unit does all that it claim to do and some. Three things that I most enjoy about the Roadmate are: 1.) How accurate it is in locatiing both urban and rural addresses 2.) It's ability to recall previous routes 3.) and the voice announcement in both male and female voices. The Roadmate also timely alert you of upcoming actions needed, i.e., turn, keep straight, forks in the road, etc. The Magellan Roadmate 760 GPS also with it's bright window display is a real keep sake!
