Magellan RoadMate 800 Portable GPS NavigatorUser Review: - Exactly what we were hoping for...We purchased the Magellan RoadMate 800 GPS unit as a gift for a man that is not really into electronics, but is very religious about reading an owners manual... This unit doesn't come with much of an owners manual and still he had no troubles getting it up and running. All features are easy to use, organization of menus is good, and the programming is very intuitive. It is easily moved from one vehicle to another with no wiring...you don't even have to plug it in to power for short trips (about 1 day or less) thanks to it's built in rechargeable battery. The buttons are big, and the touch screen is easy to use. Excellent unit...I'm going to buy one for myself now. User Review: - good gpsVery good at getting from point a to point b. POI database seems to be insufficent. Have not used the mp3 player or picture viewer functions. It is a much better value than some others in its class. User Review: - A Marriage Saver!!Well its not really that dramatic, but pretty close. The worst arguments my wife and I have is in the car. I have the worst sense of direction in the world! Strangely enough I can find anyplace, anywhere in the world except when my wife is the passenger seat. My Magellan 800 roadmate has changed that. To test the accuracy of my gps system, I traveled to a couple of places I have no problem getting to. Though it gave me a totally different way to go on one instance it did get me there. Normally I don't need a map to these places, but for the sake of testing it, I did get there. I'm not sure how recent the software is (2.12), but hopefully its pretty current. One place I needed to go was a place that wasn't there, which I had to question how old the software is. I'm a mobile dj so the Magellan Roadmate has come in handy to several venues I had gigs at. I had five different gigs in the month of December and the Magellan found my way with no problems. I live in Southern California and the roads seem to be changing every month, so it would be nice if Magellan would put out software every six months or so, just so it keeps current with the ever changing freeway system here. The Roadmate is very easy to use. It works right out of the box and you can play around with it without reading the directions. I'm the kind of person who likes to read the manuals so I did that before I used it. The manual can easily download from the Main Magellan website. You can also get the latest software. Mine came with the earlier version, so I had to download version 2.12. The directions are very simple and I had no problem. The Roadmate has an MP3 player and you can store pictures in it, but I probably won't even use that feature. I rarely listen to music anyway, unless I'm working. I love the graphics and the 3D version is my favorite way to go. The voice prompts are clear and consice and you can choose either a mans or womans voice. I chose the womans voice with the british accent. I love the sound of it. The only downside is the volume is too low even at its highest point(though I have to admit I'm almost deaf in one ear). If you are listening to the radio too loud you might not hear the prompts. However if you missed the prompt you can press on the volume and it will repeat the last prompt. I love the way it tells you the road you are on at the top of the screen and the next road you need is at the bottom. The price has gone way down, so for the price I don't think you can beat it. I am very happy with my Magellan 800 Roadmate and would buy another. I have to say this is the best purchase I have made and my wife will wholeheartedly agree with me!! Happy New Year!! User Review: - Highly RecommendedI am very happy with the purchase of this gps navagation system. It is better than I expected. It is very easy to use and works wonderfuly! User Review: - Terrific Navigation SystemWorks great, touch screen is very good. Only one small drawback, it runs out of battery preety fast like 2 hours. |
