Magellan RoadMate 800 Portable GPS NavigatorUser Review: - Finding your Way in the WorldEveryone should have one of these - you never again have to ask directions - no matter where you are. It takes you from any point "A" to any point "B" - just enter the destination in the address book, punch "route" and you're on your way! I can never be without it anymore. I have one tiny problem which I'm trying to solve - every now and then it turns off for no apparent reason, which requires that I turn off the swtich, then turn it back on again, and everything is fine. User Review: - Good, but could be betterOn the good side - it does the job quite well. Good graphics. Clear verbal instructions. On the bad side: There were times when it seemed to believe that my vehicle was about 90 to 100 feet behind its actual position. There were times when traveling through Missouri when the screen showed all the cross roads, but did not display the road I was on. If, by design or accident, you fail to make the turn intended by the GPS, you will be scolded repeatedly (You can mute it), until such time as the GPS decides to recalculate the route. At night, the screen AND THE VARIOUS DISPLAY BUTTONS are too bright. There should be a way to dim them. All in all, I'm satisfied, and a purchase through Amazon beat a purchase through AAA by more than 50%. User Review: - No Mac Support, No DiceHaving grown up with Rand McNally maps on seemingly all my classroom walls, in the family Atlas, etc,. I was predisposed to like the Magellan GPS system. However, the lack of even the slightest intention to support the lonely but (from what I can gather) creative and pro-technology 2.5% of us that use Mac's, back it went. I guess those guys are still living in the world of the classroom wall, despite their venture in GPS land. Tom Tom and/or Garmin here I come! User Review: - Very good productGreat product. I was driving around with it the first day I had it and thought I knew the roads better than the GPS. I was foolish because some of the highway onramps had changed and I wound up going on the wrong highway by mistake. I now trust this product immensely and I won't leave home without it. User Review: - magellan roadmate 800I took my magellan on vacation last week. It was great to punch the restaurants icon while driving down the freeway and know what was where and then after deciding press a button for driving instructions. Also the tourist attraction button was great, whenever we went to see an attraction, we would press the button to see what else was nearby. It saved us from being totally lost several times. The instructions are so much easier to understand than mapquest, which always left me wondering if I had exited at the right spot. I wish they would update more frequently, many of the freeways in the Phoenix area are new and not showing on the magellan and the sleep mode button gets accidently pressed and I can't tell if it's on or not. |
